Cellular context shapes cyclic nucleotide signaling in neurons through multiple levels of integration

چکیده
Intracellular signaling with cyclic nucleotides are ubiquitous pathways, yet the dynamics of these signals profoundly differ in different cell types. Biosensor imaging experiments, by providing direct measurements intact cellular environment, reveal which receptors activated neuromodulators and how coincidence is integrated at various levels cascade. Phosphodiesterases appear as one important determinant cross-talk between pathways. Finally, analysis signal that striatal medium-sized spiny neuron obey a logic than other brain regions such cortex, probably relation function this region efficiently detects transient dopamine.

Editorial: Dynamics of cyclic nucleotide signaling in neurons
The articles in this Frontiers Research Topic describe how neurons integrate the signals carried by cyclic nucleotide. Three articles present original research, two papers provide provocative opinions about aspects of cyclic nucleotides signaling and four reviews provide timely summary and analysis of the state of the field. The three original articles illustrate how biosensors can reveal the d...
متن کامل3-Phosphoinositides Modulate Cyclic Nucleotide Signaling in Olfactory Receptor Neurons
Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)-dependent phosphoinositide signaling has been implicated in diverse cellular systems coupled to receptors for many different ligands, but the extent to which it functions in sensory transduction is yet to be determined. We now report that blocking PI3K activity increases odorant-evoked, cyclic nucleotide-dependent elevation of [Ca(2+)](i) in acutely dissocia...
متن کاملAn inward current induced by a putative cyclic nucleotide-gated channel in rat cerebellar Purkinje neurons
The roles of cyclic nucleotide-gated (CNG) channels in sensory transduction have long been recognized. More recent studies found that CNG channels are distributed in multiple brain regions involved in memory and learning, including the cortex, hippocampus and cerebellum. These findings suggest that their functions are not limited to sensory perception, but also to neuronal plasticity phenomena,...

متن کاملVisualization of cyclic nucleotide dynamics in neurons
The second messengers cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) transduce many neuromodulatory signals from hormones and neurotransmitters into specific functional outputs. Their production, degradation and signaling are spatiotemporally regulated to achieve high specificity in signal transduction. The development of genetically encodable fluorescent biosen...
